This full refurbishment of a 200sqm top-floor apartment at a prime address in Earls Court transformed a traditional London residence into a sleek, contemporary home. The project was commissioned by a Member of Parliament, requiring a refined space that could serve both as a private retreat and a professional setting for meetings and entertaining.

Challenges

The main challenge of this project was the incorporation of the fire wall and curtain system within the open-plan layout. Achieving compliance with fire safety standards while maintaining the visual openness of the design required precise coordination between architects, engineers, and contractors. Our Solution

The brief was to reconfigure the apartment to create a more open, light-filled environment while maintaining a sense of sophistication and balance. Working closely with Kilburn & Nightingale Architects, the design team opened up internal walls to form a generous open-plan living area that maximises natural light and enhances the sense of space.

A copper-cladded fireplace was introduced as the focal point of the main living area, providing both warmth and a bold architectural statement. To ensure safety within the open-plan design, a 6m long fire curtain was seamlessly integrated, allowing the space to remain flexible while meeting all fire safety regulations. The interiors were finished with a refined palette of materials and textures, creating a calm, contemporary atmosphere suited to both relaxation and formal occasions.

The Results

The completed apartment in Earls Court is a sophisticated example of modern urban living. The open-plan layout, anchored by the copper-cladded fireplace, creates a sense of warmth and understated luxury.
